BirdWear is adjustable in two places. A Velcro strip in the pocket, can lengthen or shorten the harness, so that the Chest Band is placed at the widest part of the bird’s chest.
The top Velcro behind the leash ring has adjustability by design- one to three strips of Velcro, (depending on the diaper size) so it can be cut back if not needed. Cut back only after careful assessment, and only between strips.
BirdWear is only for non-hook billed birds.
All BirdWear designs are custom fitted to your individual bird's measurements, using the open frame design for a comfortable fit.
The “open frame” design’s strength is “Less is more for the Bird”, more comfort and freedom.
Part A
A proper fit would, put the end of the top Velcro (where the leash ring is ) on the bird’s back , just up from the area where the tail begins.
The pocket part should begin between the bird’s legs; sit under the tail area, while the fastener ends wrap up over the bird’s back and tail -- to hook to the Velcro onto the top Velcro.
BirdWear uses regular panty liners that can be purchased at your local store. Cut liners in half to use. Undo side straps of BirdWear, place clean pad inside in the pocket with the cut edge of pad at the point on the pocket (that would be between the legs) and round edge of pad up under tail part. BirdWear easily washes out for reuse.
Part C
Using BirdWear
1. Set the bird on a non slippery surface, so their feet have traction. Hold bird’s bottom end towards you, slip head through top opening, so chest strap is in chest area. (Fig. 1)
2. With your thumb holding pressure on top Velcro fastener on bird’s back, tuck pocket between legs (Fig 2), then turn the bird so the head is now towards your body, lift Velcro side strap up onto top back Velcro fastener (Fig. 3).
Fasten the other strap (Fig. 4). Don't worry if you struggle at first, it will take just a little practice for you and the bird.
3. A finger should fit under all the straps easily, but not be loose enough to catch a foot constantly. The bird may catch a foot a few times, but will quickly learn not to. Give a little “Melvyn Lift” at the white plastic ring, as a finishing fit. When done, give your bird a little treat so they are more apt to look forward to the diapering experience!
